Rob Ash filled pressing needs at two positions and added depth at a third on Wednesday, the first day junior college players eligible for second semester enrolment are eligible to sign with Division I schools.
Three junior college players who plan to transfer to Montana State for the second semester in January signed National Letters-of-Intent. Ash found the quarterback he sought to compete with sophomore Jordan Rasmussen during spring ball, landed a linebacker to help replace three departing seniors, and also added size and depth to the offensive line. "This is a good start for us," Ash said. "We're excited about each of these players joining our program. They all improve our team."
Ash indicated that the Bobcats could sign more mid-year transfers before the second semester begins at MSU in mid-January.

Matt Harris, LB, 6-1, 230, Jr, Mission Viejo, CA (Orange Coast JC/Edison HS)
Earned Orange Coast's Defensive Player of the Year honors for his work the past year, when he logged 47 tackles, including five for a loss and two sacks, with five quarterback hurries. Harris earned First Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore, second team honors as a freshman. He was First Team All-CIF at Edison High as a senior, when his 12-1 team lost in the CIF semifinals. As a junior, Harris' team was ranked as high as second in the nation. From Rob Ash: "Matt is an outstanding athlete at linebacker who runs well and makes plays. Matt will have the opportunity to figure into the equation right away. Similar to our situation at quarterback, we wanted to find a linebacker that could come in mid-year because of the graduation of three outstanding linebackers and compete for a job. We like the young players we have, but Mark adds quality experience. He's from the same mold as the players in our program, he's athletic and fast, and he's a tough, solid player."
Mark Iddins, QB, 6-3, 205, Jr, Mukilteo, WA (Santa Ana JC/Kamiak HS)
A transfer from Santa Ana College, Rivals.com ranks this year's All-Mission Conference quarterback as one of its top junior college quarterbacks. He was an all-conference and all-area choice as a senior at Kamiak High, where he was his team's offensive player of the year and a Scout.com Northwest Hot 100 selection. He was also all-conference as a junior. Iddins threw for 2,432 yards in 10 games this year, posting a 17-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio and .523 completion percentage. From Rob Ash: "Mark is exactly the type of quarterback we were looking for, a player who combines good, accurate passing skills with mobility. He's not a one-dimensional player, he can make plays with his arm or his legs, and he's also an excellent student of the game. Our highest priority in this recruiting class was to sign a quarterback, and we feel we've achieved that in signing Mark Iddins."
Anthony Patterson, OL, 6-4, 300, Jr, (Sierra JC/Oakmont)
Helped lead his team to a 9-2 record and conference championship this fall... a four-year varsity wrestler at Oakmont High School, where he was the Male Athlete of the winter season his senior year... a team captain with academic honors that year, as well. From Rob Ash: "We wanted to throw some size and bulk into the mix in the offensive line, and Anthony brings those physical attributes to our program. We don't have a dire need at this position, but he gives us better depth and he will have the opportunity to compete for a position."
