Bobcat Women Cruise to Road Victory

MSU’s current three-game winning streak is the longest in Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford’s tenure at Montana State.
“Everyone contributed, and it was a great team effort,” Binford said. “We came into the game looking to shoot 60 percent from the field, and we went 58 percent; and we also wanted to hold them under 60 points, and we accomplished that goal.”
Montana State (5-4) was paced by seniors Rebecca Mercer and Krislyn Wallace with 15 points, apiece. Bobcat junior Nubia Garcia, playing in her second game of the season, posted nine points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
For the game, MSU shot 58 percent from the field, including 65 percent in the opening period. The Bobcats limited Utah State (2-7) to 33 percent from the floor and 25 percent from three-point range.
Montana State held a 40-28 margin under the boards, as Anne Phippard paced the Bobcats with a team-high six rebounds.
The Aggies, who saw its two-game win streak (which included victories over Northern Arizona and Eastern Washington) snapped were paced by Jamelah Brown with 12 points and nine rebounds.
“Our defense is getting better with every game,” Binford said. “I’m really liking our team chemistry, and everyone is playing a role.”
MSU opened the game with a 24-13 run following a Mercer layup at the 9-minute mark. The Bobcats held a 39-26 advantage at intermission. Mercer, a native of Perth, Australia notched 14 points in the opening stanza.
In the second half, the Bobcats took their largest lead at 58-36 with 8:50 remaining, following a Lyndi Seidensticker jumper.
MSU will host Gonzaga on Friday night at 8 p.m. in it’s last game prior to the Holiday break. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Bobcat men.
