Mbunga Earns Big Sky Honor

Montana State center Divaldo Mbunga (Duh-VAWL-doe BUNG-uh) has been selected the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for games played between Dec. 10-16.
Mbunga, a 6-foot-9, junior from Luanda, Angola, helped Montana State to its first victory over Wyoming since 1961. Mbunga scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 79-72 victory over the Cowboys on Saturday in Casper, Wyo. Montana State had lost 13 straight games to the Cowboys. It was Montana State’s first victory over the Cowboys in Wyoming since 1955.
Mbunga went 7-of-11 from the field, and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. He also had two blocked shots and a steal.
Despite being in foul trouble much of the contest, Mbunga scored 18 points and had six rebounds in the second half. Five of Mbunga’s eight rebounds were on the offensive glass. With MSU ahead by one point with 3:45 to play, Mbunga blocked a shot. He also made all six of his free-throw attempts in the final three minutes.
Mbunga is averaging 12.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game this season. He leads the Big Sky with 43 offensive rebounds.
