Mbunga Garners Conference Player of the Week Honors
Montana State center Divaldo Mbunga has been selected the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for games played between Dec. 10-16.
Mbunga, a 6-foot-9, junior from Luanda, Angola, helped Montana State to its first victory over Wyoming since 1961. Mbunga scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 79-72 victory over the Cowboys on Saturday in Casper, Wyo. Montana State had lost 13 straight games to the Cowboys. It was Montana State’s first victory over the Cowboys in Wyoming since 1955.
Mbunga went 7-of-11 from the field, and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. He also had two blocked shots and a steal. He is averaging 12.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game this season and leads the Big Sky with 43 offensive rebounds.

Montana State kicks off the first of two Pac-10 contests on the road this season at Arizona State. The Sun Devils have just two losses on the season, one to Illinois and one to Nebraska. They are coming off an upset 77-55 win over #17 Xavier at home. Great Falls, an NAIA school, travels to Bozeman Friday for the first act of a double headers. The Argonauts have a 3-8 record on the season.

After 13 straight losses to Wyoming covering 15 years, Montana State rode Divaldo Mbunga’s considerable shoulders in the second half and the hot hand of Casey Durham to a 79-72 win over the Cowboys in the Casper Events Center on Saturday.

MSU travels to Logan, Utah Monday night for a clash with Utah State. The Aggies are 2-6 overall after defeating Northern Arizona, 65-51, on Dec. 8 and falling at Utah, 70-38, on Saturday. Utah State ranks 10th in the nation in free throw percentage (.775, 93-of-120) and is 27th in three-point FG percentage (.370, 44-of-119). The ‘Cats return home to face WCC opponent Gonzaga on Friday night as the nightcap of a double header. The Zags have four losses on the season including one to Big Sky opponent Portland State.

The ‘Cats avenged an earlier season loss with a vengeance on Saturday defeating University of Denver with a second half shooting spree. MSU freshman Sarah Strand recorded a game-high 19 points, connecting on 7-of-11 from the field and Rebecca Mercer added 17.
