Freshman Paces Bobcat Women Past Denver

Montana State (4-4) avenged an earlier loss to the Pioneers in November, shooting 56 percent from the field, including a hefty 68 percent in the second stanza. The Bobcats also connected on 10-of-16 from beyond the arc.
“I was pleased with our first 30 minutes,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We lost a little focus in the final eight minutes. However, I was very pleased that we received great contributions from a variety of people.”
One such contribution came from junior Nubia Garcia, who saw her first action of the season after sitting out seven games with a broken collarbone. Garcia finished with eight points and four rebounds in 19 minutes of action.
“With Nubia back in the rotation, it really gives us the ability to do a lot of different things and offer a lot of different looks,” Binford said. “Our bench is giving us a good lift and allows us to be a much fresher team.”
Montana State’s bench recorded 33 points against Denver (3-5).
Montana State jumped out to an early 16-6 lead at the 10:32 mark on a Garcia layup. The Bobcats entered intermission with a 29-18 advantage.
The Bobcats opened the second stanza with a 12-6 run and built its largest lead of the game at 61-35 with 9:37 remaining on a Strand 3-pointer.
For the game, MSU held a 34-31 advantage under the boards as Jamie Thornton recorded a team-high seven rebounds. Bobcat point-guard Erica Perry dished out a career-high eight assists, while adding two steals.
Montana State will play at Utah State on Monday night.
