“Student-athletes contributed out of their own pockets for local kids,” SAAC president Kayla Larson (track and field) said. “For me it’s about giving back to the community. It means a lot to be able to make children happy at this time of year.”
After student-athletes raised the money, MSU Spirit Squad members combed the town for gifts for kids ages infant to 15 years. The donation included books, stuffed animals, and numerous Spiderman and Transformers characters.
Bob Metcalf, head of the local Marine Corps League Toys for Tots was on hand to pick up the toys.
“We really appreciate what these athletes are doing. They’ve helped us every year for a long time and I always look forward to their donation,” Metcalf said.
Metcalf heads a local organization that makes toys available all year round to any family that has a need.
“We also give toys to the hospital, to victims of house fires, lots of different crises all year round,” Metcalf said.
This marks the fifth year that SAAC has donated to Toys for Tots.
