Four Hit Double-Digits as Montana State Women Defeat Mary

Also in double-figures for the Bobcats were Krislyn Wallace 14, Rebecca Mercer 14, and Erica Perry 11. Perry, a sophomore point-guard, also added five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
“We came in wanting to improve upon our defensive effort,” said MSU third-year head coach Tricia Binford. “The University of Mary is a tough team to defend. They move the ball quickly and do a good job with their screens.
“I thought we improved in some areas, but we need to get better with our post defense,” Binford said.
Leading 22-21 at the 9:14 mark of the opening period, Montana State went on an 8-0 run to stake a 30-21 advantage on a pair of Strand free throws.
The Bobcats held a 43-32 margin at intermission.
In the second stanza, MSU took its largest lead of the game at 48-32 on a Mercer 3-pointer. The closest the Marauders came in the final period was 61-54 with 7:33 remaining.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 39 percent from the field and converted 26-of-31 from the free throw line.
“It was nice to see Erica Perry be in the game and play aggressively,” Binford said. “It was also nice to see good scoring production, especially from the kids we needed to have step-up in Nubia’s (Garcia) absence.”
The University of Mary was led by Nicci Landdeck with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Montana State will open its regular season at the University of Idaho on Friday night.
