Bobcat Game-Day Notebook vs. NAU

The injury news didn't improve a lot for MSU during the week. In addition to the carnage from Saturday, Bobcat coaches learned on Thursday that Epikopo King's days as a Bobcat were over due to lingering effects from a neck injury. The senior linebacker was in the midst of an All-Big Sky type season. He finishes his senior year with 40 tackles, four for a loss, with two interceptions and three other passes broken up. He also recovered a fumble, and his speed gave the Bobcat defense a different dimension.

The sum total of the damage injuries have wrought on the Bobcats this week now stands at four starters and a de facto starter -- King, senior TE Elliott Barnhart (knee, season-ending), sophomore RB Aaron Mason (ankle, out Saturday but week-to-week after that), freshman WR Jamelle Banks (who hadn't started but had played himself into MSU's four-receiver rotation, knee, season), freshman offensive tackle Mike Person (knee, season). CB Kory Austin remains doubtful, but a decision will not be made until game time.

The good news for Bobcat fans today? Since the 2002 season, Montana State is 8-1 in November games played in Bobcat Stadium.

The bad news may be, believe it or not, the weather. Forecasts call for a downright September-like afternoon (50+ degrees and clear skies), which would make today's game MSU's first at home since the Dixie State game not played in rain or snow.

In Mike Person's absence today, freshman offensive tackle Jeff Miller makes his debut as a scrimmage player (he has played on special teams throughout the season). The hole at receiver left by Jamelle Banks' injury is likely filled by Mark Desin and Tyler Lulay.
