Malauulu Steps Down From Montana State Volleyball Program

“For the past few seasons I have contemplated a career change; whether it be athletic administration, coaching or something entirely different,” Malauulu said. “I do know that the time has come to step down from my position at Montana State.
“I would like to thank President Gamble, Peter Fields, the student-athletes and all those who have supported the program,” Malauulu said. “Montana State is a unique place to work and I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience.”
During her tenure with the Bobcats, Malauulu was part of four 20-win seasons and eight Big Sky Conference tournament appearances. Her best season as head coach came in 2004 as the Bobcats posted a 19-8 overall mark and a 10-4 league slate.
"After meeting with Coach Malauulu Wednesday morning, I accept and support her decision,” said MSU Athletics Director Peter Fields. “She has made tremendous contributions to our MSU volleyball program, Bobcat Athletics, and the Bozeman community, and I thank her for those contributions. Her future is bright in whatever endeavor she chooses.”
Malauulu joined the Bobcat staff ten-years ago and played a significant role in the turn around of the program. In her first three seasons in Bozeman, she helped guide the Bobcat volleyball squad to a 62-24 overall mark.
The Bobcats also enjoyed success at the gate, and boast one of the best fan bases in the country. This season, despite a winless mark in Shroyer Gym, Montana State had the best attendance in the Big Sky Conference and will finish among the top 50 in the nation, as well.
Fields indicated that a search committee representing the department’s different constituencies will be formed and a national search will take place.
