Bobcat Women Win Exhibition Opener

Wallace, a senior from Hooper, Utah, connected on 9-of-18 from the field, and added a team-high nine rebounds, as well.
Also in double-digits for the Bobcats were Sarah Strand 15, Rebecca Mercer 13 and Erica Perry 10.
Strand, a true-freshman from Seattle, is filling the role vacated by Nubia Garcia, who is sidelined for eight weeks with a broken collarbone. Strand ended the game shooting six-of-15 from the floor. She also added four rebounds and three assists.
“I was happy with what we accomplished, offensively,” said MSU third-year head coach Tricia Binford. “However, defensively we have a lot of work to do. We didn’t defend and we lacked energy.”
For the game, MSU shot 38 percent from the field and out-rebounded MSU Northern 50-40. The Bobcats forced 25 turnovers by the Skylights, while committing only 12 miscues.
Montana State got off to a quick 24-11 lead on an Anne Phippard 3-pointer, before MSUN closed the gap to 30-25 at the 3:49 mark on a pair of Stacie Barker free throws.
The Bobcats held a 37-31 lead at intermission.
MSU opened the second stanza with a 12-6 run, and expanded the margin to 73-56 with 4:54 remaining on a Mercer jumper.
The Skylights were led by Becky Sorenson with 20 points, while Barker added 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Bobcats will host the University of Mary on Monday night at 7 p.m., in Worthington Arena.
