Montana State heads west for a tremendously important Big Sky contest Saturday, facing an Eastern Washington team that dominated Montana last weekend before surrendering a game-winning field goal in the last seconds of the game. A pair of sophomores led the Eagles offense - quarterback Matt Nichols threw for 451 yards, while receiver Aaron Boyce had 232 yards receiving. The Bobcats haven’t won at Woodward Stadium sine 1990, and in fact Eastern has been MSU’s most difficult league rival lately. The Eagles’ four-game winning streak is the longest by any current foe.

...on the Southern Utah game: “Most of our problems on offense were inconsistencies, mistakes, and unfortunately it wasn’t a situation where you can make a change at one position and it will be fixed because it wasn’t just one person. Sometimes it was a protection problem, sometimes it was a receiver, it was just inconsistency. Defensively, we were real solid. We missed a few tackles, but that might have had to do with the conditions. Bobby Daly and Epi King really played well, and I thought the line played well. (SUU) did get a rhythm going with their offense in the second half, and I thought that hurt our offense. But the defense really did a good job, especially in the red zone.”
...MSU’s special teams play on Saturday: “Without Eric Fisher’s punting, they certainly would have scored more points. They were able to get some drives, and the offense wasn’t changing field position. And it wasn’t just Eric, the coverage guys did a great job, too. The last (punt), the 54-yarder, was monstrous in its impact on the game.”
...Eastern Washington: “Eastern Washington is a good football team. They are physical on defense, they’re extremely sophisticated and talented on offense. Matt Nichols is the best quarterback we’ve seen all year, at least since A&M. He really stays in the pocket. Montana came after him and he scrambled a little, but most of the time he hung in there nad made good throws. Their top receiver, (Aaron) Boyce, is an outstanding player, big and very physical, a tough player. Eastern really played well at Montana, and we know how important this game is. I’m really impressed with Eastern Washington.”
