Women's Hoop Squad Opens With Exhibition

The Montana State women’s basketball squad will open their 2007-08 slate with a pair of exhibition games this week.
The Bobcats will face MSU Northern, Thursday, Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m., and the University of Mary, Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
Last winter, the Bobcats posted a 13-16 overall mark and an 8-8 Big Sky Conference slate. MSU’s improvement of +8.5 games from 2005-06 to 2006-07 marked the 11th best turnaround in the nation. Montana State returns ten letterwinners, including four starters.
However, MSU will be without the services of junior Nubia Garcia, who started 28 games last season. The native of Chihuahua, Mexico, broke her clavicle in practice this week and will undergo surgery. Garcia is expected to be out eight weeks. Also questionnable for this week’s games are Erin Goodman and Callie Goff, both of which are nursing leg injuries.
MSU head coach Tricia Binford is back for her third season in Bozeman and has posted a two-year ledger of 16-39.
MSU Northern, a NAIA sister-school, is off to a 3-0 start this season. The Skylights have knocked-off Lethbridge, Regina and Fresno Pacific. They have four players averaging double-figures, led by Dana Bell at 12.7 ppg.
