Balance Key to Montana State Women’s Blue-Gold Scrimmage

The scrimmage consisted of one 20-minute period.
The Gold team was paced by junior Nubia Garcia with nine points, while Erica Perry, Anne Phippard and Erin Goodman each tallied eight points.
The Blue squad was led by true-freshman Sarah Strand with a game-high 11 points, on 4-of-7 from the field and a 3-pointer. Krislyn Wallace and Lyndi Seidensticker each added eight.
“I thought the kids put in a really nice effort,” said MSU third-year head coach Tricia Binford. “One of our goals heading into the season is to better our field-goal percentage from last year. I thought we came out and shot pretty well.”
For the game, the Gold squad shot 41 percent from the field, while Blue hit at a 54 percent clip. Combined, the teams went 8-of-21 (38 percent) from three-point range.
Goodman and Garcia led all players under the glass with six rebounds, while Strand added five. Perry dished out a game-high four assists, while adding four steals.
“I liked our balance,” Binford said. “We knocked down our open shots, and we converted in the paint. We had good production from both our upperclassmen and the newcomers.”
Montana State will open its 2007-08 with an exhibition game against MSU-Northern, Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
