Bobcat Game Notes vs. Northern Colorado
10/22/2007 12:00:00 AM | Football
It wasn’t easy, but the Bobcats bounced back from their first Big Sky loss of the season with a 20-9 win over Sacramento State. Playing without its starting quarterback and a starting cornerback, MSU didn’t score until 46 second remaining in the third quarter. From that point on, MSU outscored the scrappy Hornets 20-0 on a blustery afternoon in Bobcat Stadium. Cory Carpenter threw for 244 yards in his first start in just over a year. Eric Fisher nailed a pair of key field goals in MSU’s fourth-quarter comeback.

...the Sac State game: “We thought Sacramento State’s front seven would cause us problems, and it did. They are very talented and physical, and they did some very effective things with their defensive scheme. Offensively they ran the ball effectively in the first half, but I was happy with how we defended the run in the second half. Sac State defended the run well and that caused us problems, but Cory (Carpenter) played very well. I like the tempo he brings to the field. The bottom line is that when the defense keeps the other team out of the end zone you put yourself in good position, and we took advantage of that.”
...MSU’s focus this week: “Offensively, we continue to struggle in the red zone, and we’re working hard to correct that. We’re continually evaluating what we’re doing. Defensively, our concept really focuses on not allowing big plays and then tightening up when the field compresses and the other team enters the red zone. We’ve been successful following that plan this year. I thought Eric Fisher showed great composure to make that first field goal on Saturday. He’s been very dependable on kickoffs and punts this year, and he’ll take over (place) kicking this week.”
...Northern Colorado: “We’re concerned about Northern Colorado’s size, especially up front on offense. Their quarterback is a big kid who is mobile, their tight ends are big, and they are big in the offensive line. They like to line up and run the ball at you, and they’ve had some success doing that. Defensively, they seem to be going more toward a pressure concept, and again they’re having some success with that. Northern Colorado has played teams very close for long periods of most games, and I consider them a dangerous team.”
