One Last Look: MSU vs. Sacramento State

Two of the Big Sky's top defenses appear headed for a showdown in Bobcat Stadium on Saturday, as Sacramento State and Montana State square off at 1:07 pm.
The Hornets defense made its most impressive showing of the year last weekend, holding Montana's offense to 10 points (the Grizzlies also scored on an interception return), 173 total yards and nine first downs. Middle linebacker Cyrus Mulitalo leads the Hornets' stingy defense and sets up a showdown between two of the finest defensive players in FCS, he and MSU's Bobby Daly.
Montana State enters Saturday's game with some uncertainty at quarterback. Senior Cory Carpenter is slated to start for the first time since suffering a severe sprained ankle on October 7, 2006. Carpenter is a career 62% passer.
WINNING STREAK
Montana State has won seven straight home games, matching the longest string in a decade. Cliff Hysell's 1996-97 squads won seven straight. The 1984 Bobcats won their last six home games, with the '85 team adding the 86-0 win over Eastern Oregon. MSU's longest home streak in the Sales/Bobcat Stadium era is 11, from 1975-77.

Montana State's defense allowed just 117 yards and the Bobcat offense overcame the twin plagues of turnovers and penalties in a 21-18 win at Sacramento State. Jack Rolovich capped his 302-yard day with a 58-yard bomb to Donnel Wheaton from the shadow of the MSU goal posts, sealing Montana State's win.

• Weather forecasts call for Montana State to play a home game in rain and/or snow for the fourth time in the last five games, but Bobcat coach Rob Ash is unbowed. "I don't know, maybe our guys play well in those conditions," Ash said. MSU's only loss in the last five weeks came in its only good-weather appearance, last Saturday at Eastern Washington.
