Montana State plays home Saturday against host Sacramento State. The Hornets are coming off a 17-3 loss to top-ranked Montana. Sac, however, controlled the pace of the game, running a school-record tying 93 offensive plays for 346 yards of total offense. The loss puts Sac State at 1-3 in conference, their only win coming at home against Northern Arizona. In that 38-9 victory, five different Hornets scored TDs. Kickoff is at 1:05 p.m. Bobcat Prowl starts at 11:45 a.m. at the fieldhouse. This week’s game is Family/Parent Day.

The ‘Cats return home to Shroyer this week to start the second round of conference matches. The ‘Cats are still looking for their first conference win of the season, having dropped two on the road last weekend. Laura Viren currently leads the Bobcat offense with 2.80 kills per game. MSU hosts Northern Colorado on Friday night at 7:00 and Northern Arizona Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Montana State men’s and women’s cross country teams each had its best race of the season at the 2007 Pre-Nationals, hosted by Indiana State, Saturday morning.
Sophomore Nick Atwood had a break-through race for the Bobcats, finishing 55th overall in 24:11. He was followed by Graydon Curry, 149th, 25:02; Matt Adams, 205th; 25:38; Tyler Noland, 206th, 25:39; Kelvin Daratha, 228th, 26:11; Carl Nystuen, 231st, 26:17; and Chad Nauman, 243rd, 26:46.
The Bobcat women finished 31st out of 38 teams with 839 points. No. 1-ranked Stanford cruised to the team title with 102 points. Senior Elisabeth Driscoll led the Montana State women for the third consecutive meet, finishing 89th in 21:35. She was followed by Kayla Larson, 164th, 22:25; Kala Jacquet, 183rd, 22:41; Carrie Gottschalk, 197th, 22:54; Morgan Dunley, 206th, 23:02; Jayme Larson, 218th, 23:14; and Katie Gilboy, 237th, 23:49

10/8-9: Placed tenth at Bronco Invite at Boise
Montana State golfers braved wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour on the final day of the Bronco Fall Invitational at Boise, Idaho. The ‘Cats finished the event in tenth place, and were led by junior LaRae Smith, who tied for 38th with a 54-hole total of 258. Scores on the final day of the event reflected the windy conditions with only three sub-80 rounds shot on the final 18 holes. The meet marked the end of head coach Brittany Basye’s tenure as the head coach of the MSU women’s golf program. Basye will be replaced by Leslie Spalding on Nov. 1.
