Bobcat Harriers Have Best Race at Pre-Nationals

“Without a doubt it was our best race of the year so far,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “Heading in we wanted to have a real good day so we could use it going into the Big Sky Championships. We ran in great conditions and found what we were looking for.”
The Bobcat men finished 32nd overall in the 38-team Blue Division, notching 843 points.
Perennial Big Sky power Northern Arizona won the team title with 124 points. The Lumberjacks were led by Lopez Lomong, who took individual honors covering the 8000-meter course in 23:03.
Finishing behind the Bobcats in the team event were Nebraska 855, Arizona 1012, Morehead State 1045, IUPUI 1071, Dayton 1073, and Mississippi 1219.
Sophomore Nick Atwood had a break-through race for the Bobcats, finishing 55th overall in 24:11. He was followed by Graydon Curry, 149th, 25:02; Matt Adams, 205th; 25:38; Tyler Noland, 206th, 25:39; Kelvin Daratha, 228th, 26:11; Carl Nystuen, 231st, 26:17; and Chad Nauman, 243rd, 26:46.
“Atwood, Curry and Noland all had great races,” Kennedy said. “We were disappointed coming out of the Notre Dame meet, but our performance today was an amazing turnaround.”
The Bobcat women finished 31st out of 38 teams with 839 points.
No. 1-ranked Stanford cruised to the team title with 102 points. Florida State’s Susan Kuijken won individual honors, covering the 6000-meter event in 19:56.
Placing behind MSU were Mississippi State 856, Central Michigan 888, Indiana 904, Dartmouth 952, Loyola (Ill) 1076, IUPUI 1176, and Mississippi 1213.
Senior Elisabeth Driscoll led the Montana State women for the third consecutive meet, finishing 89th in 21:35. She was followed by Kayla Larson, 164th, 22:25; Kala Jacquet, 183rd, 22:41; Carrie Gottschalk, 197th, 22:54; Morgan Dunley, 206th, 23:02; Jayme Larson, 218th, 23:14; and Katie Gilboy, 237th, 23:49.
“Elisabeth (Driscoll) had her best race of the season and did a nice job racing in the upper-third,” Kennedy said. “We also had outstanding results from Kala Jacquet and Morgan Dunley and that was very refreshing to see.”
MSU will compete at the Big Sky Championships, Oct. 27 in Missoula.
