Weber State Races Past Bobcats

Weber State capitalized on a seemingly endless wave of free throws and strong finishes to each half, beating Montana State 84-63 in Ogden on Saturday.
The Wildcats shot 44 free throws, scoring 34 of their 84 points from the line. Weber outscored MSU 8-2 in the last 3:06 of the first half and 12-1 in the last 4:19 of the game.
"We hung around" in the first half, said MSU coach Brad Huse. "I thought the end of the first half was a momentum killer, when the turned our turnovers into buckets. That was really a point where the game turned."
David Patten turned in an impressive performance for Weber, and was the primary beneficiary of the whistle-fest. Patten converted 10 of his 12 free throws just two nights after finishing 0-for-5 against Idaho State. He had missed nine of his previous 10 free throws. The senior forward finished with a career-high 25 points, and grabbed nine rebounds.
"Patten played very well," Huse said. "He hadn't been shooting free throws well at all."
Nick Dissly led the Bobcats with 21 points, while Carlos Taylor had a dozen. "I thought Nick and Carlos played very determined," Huse said.
After its strong finish to the first half, Weber scored the first five points of the second half to take command of the game. MSU used a 5-0 run midway through the second half to climb to within 63-57 on a pair of Adrian Zamora free throws, but could get no closer. WSU put the game away with an 8-1 run.
MSU plays again at Montana on Saturday. Game time has not yet been determined by the University of Montana's KPAX-TV.
