As the BSC races heats up, the Bobcat men are only one loss out of first place. With the new conference schedule, some BSC schools have played as many as 10 conference games, leaving the men only one loss behind league-leading Weber State. MSU is perfect at home in conference and has only one road game left on its schedule.
This week, the men take on Eastern Washington and Portland State at home. Both schools are sitting at 5-5 in the conference. This will be the second round of games for these schools, the ‘Cats having beaten EWU on the road and falling to PSU. Eastern is coming off a road split, having beat Sacramento State and losing at Weber. Portland State is also coming off a road split, having beaten Sacramento State and losing to Idaho State.
Last Week:
Jan. 25: beat Northern Colorado, 58-57
Jan. 27: lost to Northern Arizona, 76-86
Montana State overcame a 14-point second half deficit then staved off a late Northern Colorado surge to post a 58-57 win in Greeley. Casey Durham nailed a pair of free throws to seal the victory with 7.2 seconds to play, just before NC’s Sean Taibi missed a 30-footer at the buzzer.
In danger of dropping a two-game homestand, NAU rolled through the second half on its way to a 10-point win over the Cats. Northern Arizona shot 57% in the second half and held MSU to 39% shooting on the night, as the Lumberjacks salvaged the weekend with an 86-76 win over MSU on Saturday. Nick Dissly led all players with 24 points. Carlos Taylor scored 11 points.

Montana State junior Rebecca Mercer notched a game-high 15 points, including a 4-of-8 effort from three-point range to pace the Bobcats to a 68-47 win over Northern Colorado. Also recording double-digits for Montana State (8-10, 3-3) were Krislyn Wallace with 13 and Nubia Garcia with 11.
Northern Arizona post player Megan Porter notched 25 points and ten rebounds to guide the Lumberjacks to a 60-52 victory, Saturday afternoon in Worthington Arena. Northern Arizona held a 44-35 advantage in rebounding, including several offensive boards during crucial possessions. Montana State was led by junior college transfer Krislyn Wallace with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds.

Bobcats travel to Pocatello this week for the ISU Invite to try and add to their already 25 qualifying BSC performances. They host the Bobcat Open Feb. 17.
Last Week:
Montana State dominated the field at the MSU Dual Invite Friday night at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse with decisive wins over Eastern Washington and conference favorite Weber State. MSU men beat Eastern 89-45 and Weber 76.5-65.5. The women won easily over EWU, 95-36 and beat Weber 75-67. Individually, the Bobcats qualified four more performances for the BSC indoor to be held here in Bozeman Feb. 23-24: Dan Johnson in the 55 and 200, Ben Soukup in the 55 meter hurdles, and Charlie Hirning in the high jump.

The Montana State women’s tennis team posted its first victory of the season with a 5-2 win over Utah State, Saturday night.
The Bobcats opened the match winning at Nos. 2 and 3 singles to take the opening point. Montana State’s (1-3) No. 1 doubles tandem of Katy Proietti and Nicole Luetolf dropped a hard-fought 9-7 decision to Lauren and Erin Monson.
“We had a great day and we can see the progress the kids are making,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “We keep taking steps forward. Our pre-conference schedule is tough, and this was a super win.”
MSU took 4-of-6 singles matches, including the No. 2 position where Nuria Hernandez posted a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Erin Monson. Bobcat freshman Ali Griffin recorded her first win at MSU with a 6-0, 6-2 straight set decision over USU’s Lauren Monson.
