Lumberjacks Chop Bobcats

Northern Arizona shot 57% in the second half and held MSU to 39% shooting on the night, as the Lumberjacks salvaged the weekend with an 86-76 win over MSU on Saturday. NAU lost to Montana at home on Thursday.
The Bobcats took the game into the second half tied, and trailed by two when Branden Johnson nailed a jumper three minutes in. NAU's Kyle Landry answered with a jumper and Josh Wilson's three-pointer moments later keyed a 10-0 run that gave the Lumberjacks control of the game. The Bobcats got no closer than eight.
"We were in good position at halftime," said MSU coach Brad Huse. "It's tough on a road swing like this when you don't get it done in the second half, but there's no one who was satisfied with just winning the first game. That's good to see. The guys competed."
After shooting poorly on Thursday, NAU shot just 46% form the field and 33% from three-point range in the first half Saturday. The hot streak early in the second stanza changed that, and NAU finished the game shooting 52% from the floor, 44% from the circle.
"NAU is a good shooting team," Huse said. "You know they're not going to struggle for long periods of time."
MSU stayed in the game behind a heroic effort getting to the free throw line and converting. The Bobcats shot 96% from the line, 26-for-27, the second-best effort in school history. The 'Cats converted all 25 of their charity tosses in a 1999 game against Wyoming in Casper.
Nick Dissly led all players with 24 points. Tyrone Bazy scored 18 for NAU. Carlos Taylor scored 11 points on 1-for-10 shooting for the 'Cats.
