MSU Runs Away With Home Invite

MSU men beat Eastern 89-45 and Weber 76.5-65.5. The women won easily over EWU, 95-36 and beat Weber 75-67.
Individually, the Bobcats qualified four more performances for the BSC indoor to be held here in Bozeman Feb. 23-24: Dan Johnson in the 55 and 200, Ben Soukup in the 55 meter hurdles, and Charlie Hirning in the high jump.
Torey Schaefer, Autumn Domitriovich, and Toni Qunell captured the top three places in the 55. Domitrovich and Qunell ran one-two in the 200 as well. Schaefer won the 400. In the 3000, Elisabeth Driscoll ran second and Carrie Gottschalk ran third. Lindsey Anderson of Weber State won the event with an NCAA provisional time of 9:38.50. MSU captured five of the top six places in the pole vault with Ellie Rudy leading the way with a new fieldhouse record of 13-06.5, just three inches short of an automatic invite to the NCAAs. The old record was set in 2004 by Lindsay Taylor. Rudy also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16-7.25. In the throws, Bobcat women placed first, second, fourth and seventh in the shot. Kylee Zent beat the field with a toss of 48-2.50. Karen Helvey finished first in the weight throw and teammate Allison Jones placed second followed by Lise Kilgore in third.
On the men’s side, the MSU men dominated the 55 with Steve Heberly and Dan Johnson finishing one-two. Kevin Ludwig was fifth. Johnson won the 200 and Eberly placed third in the 400. In the 3000, freshman Matt Adams placed second just in front of teammate Matt Beamer. Ben Soukup won the 55 meter hurdles with a BSC qualifying time of 7.70. Charlie Hirning won the high jump and also qualified for the BSC championship with a jump of 6-5.5. In the pole vault, Bobby Biskpiak placed second with a vault of 15-9. Kevin Ludwig won the triple jump with a leap of 47-8. In the men’s weight events, MSU throwers placed first, second, third in both events with Jesse Allen winning both the shot put and weight throw. Blake Corneliusen took second in the shot followed by Casey Clausen, and Nathan Palmer place second in the weight throw followed by Brian Lindquist.
