MSU Women Drop Match to Utes; Men Open with Alumni

The Bobcats dropped the opening point of the match, losing all three doubles matches, despite two tough defeats at Nos. 2 and 3.
In singles action, MSU’s best battle was at No. 2 singles, where Katy Proietti stepped up to meet Utah’s Leigh Walsh. Proietti dropped the first set in a tie-breaker, before losing the second set 6-4.
“We’ve faced a very tough schedule and our kids are doing a super job competing on every point,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “We’re still very early in our season and I feel things are coming along at a good pace.”
The Bobcats opened their season last week with a 6-1 setback at the University of Portland. MSU’s lone victory came at No. 3 singles, where Proietti posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Audree Jenks. MSU also faced No. 42 Oregon, and fell 7-0 to the Ducks.
MSU will face Utah State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Montana State men’s squad, the three-time defending Big Sky Conference champions, will open their season on Saturday with an Alumni match at 1 p.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
