Garcia, a sophomore from Chihuahua, Mexico, posted a double-double by hauling down a game-high ten rebounds.
“I thought we lacked energy,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We thrive off our energy and we just didn’t bring it against Northern Colorado.
“On the positive side, I thought Alyssa Nelson had two key back-to-back possessions in the second half and we shot the ball pretty well.”
For the game, MSU shot 45 percent from the field, including 52 percent in the second half. Montana State also out-rebounded Northern Colorado (4-15, 1-6) 49-31.
After trailing by four points in the early going, MSU rattled off a 15-1 run to take a 22-12 lead with 8:07 remaining on a Mercer three-pointer. The Bobcats entered intermission with a 33-23 advantage.
Montana State built its largest lead of the contest at 60-32 with 6:36 left on a field-goal by Nelson.
Northern Colorado was led by Melanie Drangmeister and Whitley Cox with 11 points, apiece.
MSU will host Northern Arizona on Saturday afternoon.
