Bobcat Track and Field Set to Host Dual Invite

THIS WEEK’S ACTION
Bobcats host the MSU Dual Invite on Friday. This is “Pack the House” night at MSU and tickets are 2-for-1 at the door. Fans are encouraged to wear their blue and gold. Field events start at 4:30 p.m. and track events start at 5:00 p.m. “Little Bobcats” 50-meter dash is at 7:00 p.m. Schools invited include Weber State and Eastern Washington.

Last Week
Montana State qualified in 21 events for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships Friday night at the Montana State Open in Bozeman. Also competing at the event were University of Montana, Idaho State, and University of Mary (Bismarck).
In the track events for women, senior Torey Schaefer qualified in both the 55 and 200 meter dash events. Also on the women’s side, junior Ellie Rudy registered both an NCAA provisional mark and a BSC qualifying
mark winning the pole vault at 13-07.25. Brittany Speirs also hit a BSC qualifying mark at 12-04. MSU took first and second in the women’s shot put with qualifying marks by Kylee Zent and Kris Schaffer. In the women’s weight throw, the Bobcat throwers placed first, second and fourth as the trio of Karen Helvey, Allison Jones, and Lise Kilgore all met Big Sky standard marks. Junior Meghan Bucy also qualified for the BSC in the triple jump.
On the men’s side, senior sprint standout Steve Heberly qualified in both the 55 and 200, winning the 200 with a mark of 22.19. Fellow sprinter Dan Johnson won the 400 with a qualifying time of 48.64. In the distance events, Tony Bachman and Matt Beamer placed first and second in the 3000 and their times qualified them for the conference 5000 race. Pole vaulters Thomas Seely and freshman Bobby Biskupiak set qualifying vaults and placed first and third in the event. Senior Jesse Allen qualified in both the shot put and weight throw, capturing the shot put title with a throw of 58-03.

Women’s Field: Junior Ellie Rudy registered an NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault at last Friday’s Montana State Open to win the pole vault event and take up where she left off after last outdoor season’s All-American performance. Rudy vaulted 13-5.25, just four inches short of an NCAA qualifying mark.
Women’s Track: Senior Torey Schaefer sprinted to two BSC qualifying marks and two victories in the 55 (7.24) and 200 (25.49) at the Montana State Open.
Men’s Field: Senior Jesse Allen placed first in the shot put and second in the weight throw at the Montana State Open and picked up a pair of BCS qualifying marks in the process.
