Men’s Basketball (6-13, 3-3)
Taylor Wins Player of the Week Honors in Men’s Basketball
Carlos Taylor, who led Montana State to wins over the top two teams in the Big Sky standings last weekend, earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Monday. Taylor shares the weekly award with Portland State's Dupree Lucas.
A 6-1 junior guard from Memphis, Tenn., Taylor scored 40 points in the wins over Idaho State and Weber State. He also added seven rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and a steal. It is his first Player of the Week award.

Northern Colorado has one lone conference win as a newcomer to the Big Sky. The Bears won a close game 88-86 against Northern Arizona, but have since lost their last three games on the road. They are currently 1-7 in conference play. Northern Arizona currently sits in a tie for second place in the BSC with a 5-3 record. Senior sharp-shooter Stephen Sir has the sixth best field goal percentage in the nation at 51.4 percent and the Lumberjacks currently own the best three-point shooting percentage in NCAA Division I basketball. MSU has not faced either school yet in conference play.

Jan. 20: beat Idaho State, 58-57
Montana State roared back from an eight-point halftime deficit to score a 63-48 win on Thursday over Weber State. Carlos Taylor led the effort with 21 points, four rebounds and two assists. Nick Dissly added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. Casey Durham and Ted Morris led the ‘Cats on the boards with six rebounds apiece.
First-place Idaho State entered Saturday's game at Montana State with the Big Sky's leading defense, but the Bobcat defense carried the night in a 58-57 win. Taylor capped a magnificent weekend with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot.

Despite having four starters in double-figure scoring, Montana State couldn’t convert the key possession down the stretch as Weber State posted a 67-66 win over the Bobcats, Thursday night. Leading the Bobcats was Rebecca Mercer with 18 points, while Nubia Garcia 13, Erica Perry 12 and Krislyn Wallace 10 also hit double-digits.
The Bobcats had five players in double-figures Saturday as the Bobcats snapped a seven-game losing streak to Idaho State with a 91-80 win over the Bengals. The ‘Cats were led in scoring by Krislyn Wallace with a career-high 18. Nubia Garcia scored 16. Also scoring in double-figures for the Bobcats were Rebecca Mercer 15, Brandie Buckless 15, and Alyssa Nelson 14. For the game, the Bobcats shot 43 percent from the field, including a 48 percent effort in the second half. MSU also connected on 8-of-14 from 3-point range.

Jan. 26: “Pack the House” MSU Multi Dual Invite
Bobcats host the MSU Dual Invite on Friday. This is “Pack the House” night at MSU and tickets are 2-for-1 at the door. Fans are encouraged to wear their blue and gold. Field events start at 4:30 p.m. and track events start at 5:00 p.m. “Little Bobcats” 50-meter dash is at 7:00 p.m. Schools invited include Weber State and Eastern Washington.

Montana State qualified in 21 events for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships Friday night at the Montana Open in Bozeman. In the track events for women, senior Torey Schaeffer qualified in both the 55 and 200 meter dash events. Also on the women’s side, junior Ellie Rudy registered both an NCAA provisional mark and a BSC qualifying mark winning the pole vault at 13-07.25. Brittany Speirs also hit a BSC qualifying mark at 12-04. MSU took first and second in the women’s shot put with qualifying marks by Kylee Zent and Kris Schaffer. In the women’s weight throw, the Bobcat throwers placed first, third and fourth as the trio of Karen Helvey, Allison Jones, and Lise Kilgore all met Big Sky standard marks.
On the men’s side, senior sprint standout Steve Heberly qualified in both the 55 and 200, winning the 200 with a mark of 22.19. Fellow sprinter Dan Johnson won the 400 with a qualifying time of 48.64. In the distance events, Tony Bachman and Matt Beamer placed first and second in the 3000 and their times qualified them for the conference 5000 race. Pole vaulters Thomas Seely and freshman Bobby Biskupiak set qualifying vaults and placed first and third in the event. Senior Jesse Allen qualified in both the shot put and weight throw, capturing the shot put title with a throw of 58-03.

Behind the one-two punch of Nordic skiers Jamie Woelk and Claire Rennie, the Montana State ski team moved up one spot into fifth place on Saturday afternoon in the MSU Invitational at Bohart Ranch. Woelk finished the 15-kilometer classic race in seventh place with a clocking of 55:51.31, while Rennie finished eighth in a time of 56:02.23. Senior Mandy Bowden just missed a top ten finish, placing 11th with a time of 56:14.12. Other finishers for MSU included Fraiser Opel, 23rd, 59:29.02; Karoline Teien, 29th, 1:00:44.98; Rachel Goldstein, 35th, 1:02:09.82; Laura Johnson, 45th, 1:06:54.42; and Laura Tuttle, 47th, 1:08:47.40.
The Montana State men’s team was led by senior Chris Coe, who finished the 20-kilometer classic race 16th in a time of 1:07:49.30. He was followed by Nathan Park, 19th, 1:08:05.19; Tim Downey, 29th, 1:09:00.01; Sam Viavant, 31st, 1:10:06.99; Chris McMahon, 39th, 1:12:42.68; and Noah King, 44th, 1:14:27.94.
The women’s Nordic team registered an unprecedented effort earlier last week when the Bobcats finished fourth at the University of Utah Skiing Invitational on Jan. 14. The fourth place finish is MSU’s highest since the program was resurrected with the women’s squad in 1994, and combined with the men’s program four years ago.

The MSU women’s tennis team opened its 2007 season, dropping a pair of matches at Portland and #42 Oregon. MSU’s lone victory of the weekend was at No. 3 singles, where Katy Proietti downed her opponent from Portland. The Bobcats will play at Utah and Utah State, this weekend.
