Nordic Portion of MSU Invitational Takes Place This Weekend

The women’s five-kilometer skate race will be held Friday, Jan. 19 at 9:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 10-kilometer race at 10:30 a.m. On Saturday, the women’s 15-kilometer classic event will begin with a mass start at 9:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 20-kilometer race at 11 a.m.
Defending national champion Colorado leads the MSU Invitational with 152.5 points, following the alpine slalom events. The giant slalom races were canceled due to inclement weather.
Montana State is currently in fifth place with 96.5 points.
MSU is coming off a fourth place finish at the University of Utah Invitational, last weekend.
The meet was highlighted by MSU’s 1-2-3 finish in the women’s 10-kilometer skate race. Freshman Jamie Woelk won the individual title in 34:16.1. She was followed closely by Mandy Bowden and Claire Rennie.
“It’s still the talk of the town,” said MSU Nordic coach Grethe Hagensen. “It was something special to see those three kids enter the stadium sprinting towards the finish line.”
The Bobcat alpine squad was paced by another freshman, as Carmel McElroy finished second in the women’s giant slalom.
