NEXT UP: After opening up the Big Sky Conference season with three consecutive home games, the Montana State women’s basketball team will take to the road this weekend. The Bobcats will travel to Weber State, Thursday, Jan. 18 in Ogden, Utah. Tip is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., in the Dee Events Center. MSU will conclude its southern swing in Pocatello, Idaho on Jan. 20 with a contest against Idaho State at 2:05 p.m. in Reed Gym. Heading into this weekend, MSU’s last opponent (Montana) and its two upcoming opponents have a combined Big Sky Conference mark of 9-0.
ON THE AIR: All Montana State women’s basketball games will be carried live on My 103.5 FM. Veteran broadcaster Mark Martello will handle play-by-play duties for his second straight season. Martello will begin his broadcast with the Bobcat Pregame Show, originating 15-minutes prior to tip-off.
SERIES FACTS: Weber State holds a slim 30-29 advantage in the all-time series with Montana State dating back to the 1977-78 season. The Wildcats have won eight straight from the Bobcats. MSU’s last win over WSU came on Jan. 16, 2003 in a 48-44 victory in Worthington Arena. Montana State holds a 35-20 advantage in its all-time series with Idaho State dating back to the 1979-80 camgaign. ISU, however, has captured the last seven meetings between the two schools. MSU’s last win came on Feb. 13, 2003 (94-74) at ISU.
FAST BREAKS: Montana State dropped its only game of the week against Montana on Thursday night in an 86-67 setback in Worthington Arena...MSU was paced in the loss by junior college transfer Krislyn Wallace with a team-high 13 points and two rebounds...Nubia Garcia led the Bobcats under the boards with a team-high six rebounds...For the game, MSU shot 34 percent from the field, while Montana hit at a 51 percent clip...The Lady Griz entered the game as the nation’s leading three-point shooting team at 42.3 percent...The Bobcats limited the Lady Griz to 33.3 percent from long distance on Thursday night.
BOBCAT PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior college transfer Krislyn Wallace was named Montana State Player of the Week for her effort against the University of Montana. The 6-1 native of Hooper, Utah, was the only Bobcat in double-figure scoring with 13 points on 5-of-8 versus the Lady Griz. She also pulled two rebounds and added one assist and one steal. Wallace, who played at Eastern Utah College last winter, is currently averaging 7.3 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game. Her rebound average is fifth best in the Big Sky Conference.
WHO’S HOT:
*Freshman point guard Erica Perry has stepped up her play since the beginning of the Big Sky Conference season. The Lynwood, Calif., native is averaging 9.0 points and 3.3 steals. Perry has also converted 11-of-12 free throws. Last week against Montana, she recorded 8 points, five steals, and four rebounds, while forcing one of the Big Sky’s top players (Mandy Morales) into 7 turnovers.
*Junior Krislyn Wallace has averaged nine points and 6.7 rebounds in her first three Big Sky Conference games. She posted 13 points against Montana and had a team-high ten rebounds in MSU’s win over Portland State. During the same time frame, Wallace is shooting 60 percent from the field.

Last winter, Montana State ranked last in the Big Sky in scoring margin, rebounding offense, rebounding margin, scoring defense and defensive rebounds. Heading into this season, MSU head coach Tricia Binford placed emphasis on shoring up the Bobcat defense. Here’s a look at where the Bobcats currently rank in the same categories entering the Big Sky Conference season: scoring margin (5th), rebounding offense (4th), rebounding margin (5th), scoring defense (4th), and defensive rebounds (5th).
IT TAKES A THIEF:
Montana State is second in the Big Sky averaging 10.73 steals per game. The Bobcats have three players ranked among the top 10 in the league for steals. They include: Alyssa Nelson (2nd, 2.80), Erica Perry (4th, 2.47), and Nubia Garcia (10th, 1.67). In Big Sky Conference only games, MSU back court duo of Nelson and Perry rank No. 1 in the league for steals (3.33).
A WELL BALANCED DIET:
The Bobcats do not have a player ranked among the top 10 in the Big Sky in scoring; however, MSU has four players ranked from Nos. 11-22. They include: Rebecca Mercer (13th, 11.3), Alyssa Nelson (14th, 10.9), Whitney Connolly (17th, 10.1) and Nubia Garcia (22nd, 9.7).
A VIEW FROM THE PINE:
Montana State has received excellent support from its bench this season. MSU’s eight players coming off the pine are averaging 23.5 points per game. The group is led by senior Whitney Connolly, who is averaging 10.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest.
SMART COOKIES:
The 2005-06 Montana State women’s basketball team ranked 5th in the nation for cumulative grade-point average by the WBCA, last season. All ten players on the roster garnered All-Big Sky Conference Academic honors.
