Montana State's track and field program, which produced three All-Americas last spring and has won three Big Sky Conference team championships in the last six years, was the beneficiary of the largest gift by a living donor in MSU Athletics history on Wednesday.
A gift of $1 million, made by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, will help perpetuate the program's legacy and success, MSU Athletic Director Peter Fields said. "This generous gift will help sustain our track and field program in the future," he said. "It is a tremendous gift by a very generous, forward-thinking family."
These individuals indicated that MSU's track and field success was a motivating factor in the gift. "It is a pleasure to make this donation to a wonderfully run program with great athletes. We're happy to give it our support. We hope this encourages others to support the program in any way that they can, big or small."
Bobcat coach Dale Kennedy said that the support will make a tremendous difference. "This is a wonderful gift to Bobcat Track and Field and MSU Athletics," Kennedy said. "This gift benefits our program, but reflects positively on the accomplishments that student-athletes in each of our sports programs have achieved over the years.
