Bobcats Blanked at Northern Colorado

“We did everything right to put ourselves in a position to win, but then we sat back and waited, and became passive,” said MSU fourth-year head coach Miya Malauulu. “We’ve got to figure out how to close out a game. We need someone to step-up, and want the ball. Our kids have the ability, but they need to find that extra something inside of them.”
Montana State (5-8, 1-3) held a 25-21 advantage in the opening set, and maintained a 28-25 margin following a Kim Stonehouse service ace. Northern Colorado (7-7, 4-1) responded with a 5-1 run to stake a 30-29 lead. UNC won the game on a Devon Crotteau kill.
In the second set, MSU again held an early 13-9 lead, before the Bears fought to take an 18-17 advantage. With the score tied at 22-all, three consecutive Bobcat errors gave Northern Colorado a three-point lead and the Bears never looked back.
In the final game, UNC jumped out to a 7-2 and cruised to the victory.
MSU was paced in the loss by Stonehouse with 12 kills, while Angela Wiebe and Raelene Purnell each added nine, apiece. Wiebe, Purnell and Kaytlin Van Burger each had five blocks, while Laura Viren and Allyce Bebensee led the Bobcats with 16 and 14 digs, respectively.
Northern Colorado was led by Lizzy Rhoads with 12 kills.
MSU will travel to Northern Arizona on Saturday night.
