Idaho State Tames Bobcat Spikers

Montana State (5-7, 1-2) cruised to the opening game win, out-hitting Idaho State (6-11, 2-2) .353 to .237. In the second stanza, MSU held a 26-21 advantage before ISU rallied. Both teams had numerous game points, and an ISU kill by Katie Hurst and a MSU hitting error game the Bengals the win. ISU built early margins in games three and four, and the Bobcats were unable to mount any offensive attack as the Bengals posted a 3-1 victory.
“I would be lying if I said it isn’t frustrating,” said MSU head coach Miya Malauulu. “We played very solid in the opening game; then gave up a significant lead in game two, and we never got it back after that.”
Montana State was paced by Kim Stonehouse and Raelene Purnell with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Purnell had an outstanding night for the Bobcats, recording a team-high .394 attack mark and three blocks.
Kandice Kelly led MSU with a match-high 19 digs, while Angela Wiebe posted a match-high six blocks.
“We’ll learn from this experience,” Malauulu said. “There are a lot of conference matches remaining and it’s already proven to be an interesting league. We’ve got to come back with more pride and believe in our abilities.”
MSU will travel to Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona next weekend.
