Bobcats Shock the World

Cory Carpenter threw for 229 yards, the Bobcat defense held Colorado to 216 yards and the MSU kickoff coverage team forced a fourth-quarter turnover in Montana State's 19-10 upset of Colorado on Saturday.
"This game was not about height, weight, speed," said MSU coach Mike Kramer. "It was about belief systems. We started ours with a loss to Humboldt State six years ago, and little by little we put bricks in the wall until the product is what you see today."
After Kramer had engineered Montana State's first upset of a Division I-A opponent since 1984, Kramer was quick to credit his coordinators, Don Bailey on offense and former Colorado assistant Rob Christoff on defense. "Don did a good job keeping them off balance, and the continuity that Rob brings to our defense even in his first year as coordinator gives us a lot of confidence."
Montana State earned a win-within-the-win early in the game, holding Colorado to a field goal on the team's first offensive possession of Dan Hawkins' head coaching regime. The Bobcats bounced back with a 63-yard scoring drive capped by a Jeff Hastings field goal. Hastings hit another field goal late in the first quarter to give MSU a 6-3 lead, and the 'Cats trailed 10-6 at halftime after a one-yard James Cox run.
Michael Jefferson's 10-yard catch early in the third quarter gave the 'Cats the lead. Hastings tacked on two field goals.
"We wanted to come out and execute," Jefferson said. "We didn't want to worry about the crowd or anything, we just wanted to execute our plan."
