Youth Movement Sparks Bobcat Harriers

MSU finished third in the overall scoring, behind Weber State and Utah State.
Matthew Atkinson-Adams, a redshirt freshman, paced the Bobcats finishing eighth overall, covering the 5-mile course in 25:25. He was followed closely by Nick Atwood, tenth, 25:41, and Matt Beamer, 11th, 25:44.
“It’s pretty exciting to see the potential of our men’s team,” said MSU head coach Dale Kennedy. “We had a good, solid performance. We’re off to a good start.”
Also contributing to the Bobcat effort were Kurt Michels, 18th, 26:02, Devin McDowell, 20th, 26:11, Graydon Curry, 22nd, 26:27, Michael Kapus, 29th, 27:06, and David Steinbacher, 36th, 27:30.
Utah State’s Vance Twitchel won the men’s individual title in 25:08.
The Montana State women dropped a 22-37 decision to Montana in dual scoring, and finished four overall behind Weber State, UM and Utah State.
The Bobcats were solid at the top end of the line-up, and were lead by senior Ashley Hadway, who placed ninth overall on the three-mile course in a time of 17:44. She was followed by Caroline Gottschalk, 15th, 18:03, and Elisabeth Driscoll, 16th, 18:08.
“We knew heading into the meet that we would be strong up front,” Kennedy said. “Those kids had a good day. We need to work on getting our next kids from a one-minute spread to around 30-seconds.”
Also finishing for the Bobcats were Leah Thompson, 34th, 19:06, Kayla Larson, 36th, 19:08, Marilee Woyth, 43rd, 19:37, and Elena Gibson, 20:18.
Weber State’s Lindsey Anderson captured the women’s crown in 16:54.
