Bobcats Scrimmage at 5:30 pm Thursday

Mike Kramer knows that his Bobcat football team's scrimmage Thursday afternoon has little bearing on MSU's opener September 2 at Colorado, but he also knows he will see signs of things to come.
Montana State's final scrimmage of fall camp begins at 5:30 pm, 90 minutes later than previously scheduled, to allow for new student orientation. It is slated for the team's practice fields.
Regardless of the start time, Kramer will be looking for many of the same things Thursday as he will in Boulder nine days hence. "I want to see the offense generate first downs," he said. "I want to see us move the ball and avoid penalties, that is very important. Defensively, I want to see increased fervor in the pass rush."
Kramer said his quarterback play continues to improve overall, although the process includes setbacks. "We're making situations in practice more game-like, and that makes it more of a challenge. But they're growing through that, which is promising."
One of the positive elements of this year's camp comes from a strength of last year's squad, Kramer said. "We are a well-conditioned team," he said. "One of the things the Oklahoma State coaches told us after we played there last year was that they were surprised how well-conditioned we were to play in the heat. We have taken the same approach this year, so I expect that a well-conditioned Bobcat team will take the field on September 2."
Kramer said Thursday's scrimmage, the team's last major tune-up of preseason camp, will feature "good on good."
