Carpenter Seeks Consistency

After taking a deep breath upon learning he will enter the season as Montana State's starting quarterback, it didn't take long for him to settle on his top priority.
"Now my role is to stay as consistent as possible and do the best job I can for the squad," Carpenter said Monday after his first practice as MSU's starting quarterback. Kramer informed Carpenter and junior Jack Rolovich Sunday night that Carpenter would get the starting nod, but "the competition is still there. I need to be consistent and keep getting better."
Kramer credited both quarterbacks for their play in Monday's morning practice session. "We've been a little slow within the synapse of the play. We took a monster stride forward at the quarterback position this morning," he said.
After watching Travis Lulay play the position for three seasons, Carpenter said he's ready to shake off the rust. "Sitting behind Travis was hard," he said. "I didn't get any playing time, and that's hard, but there's only one quarterback on the field at one time, and we all know that. That's how it is. I'm ready."
Carpenter said that, even with the work ahead, the decision is a relief. "It takes a little pressure off," he said.
