The award recognizes teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade-point averages.
The Bobcats had a cumulative 3.459 grade-point average, which ranked only behind South Dakota State (3.730), Indiana State (3.612), Eastern Washington (3.474) and Valparaiso (3.468).
“This is an awesome achievement by our student-athletes, said Bobcat head coach Tricia Binford. The amount of time these kids put in on the court and in the classroom is to be commended. To be able to say that our program is ranked among the top five academic squads at the Division I level is a testament to the hard work of our kids and to an outstanding university.
All ten players on MSU's active 2005-06 basketball roster garnered All-Big Sky Conference Academic honors, this winter. In addition, Amanda DeHaan and Anne Phippard had at least one semester with a 4.00 grade-point average.
Rounding out the top ten on the WBCA's Division I Honor Roll were New Mexico, Oakland, Northern Iowa, Northern Arizona and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
