The NCAA released the bracket on Wednesday night.
Montana State (15-11) will play Pepperdine (30-2) on Saturday, May 13 at 10 a.m. (MST) at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif.
“We’re excited about the challenge,” said MSU men’s head coach Mike Phillips. “We’ve been in this position the last two years, so we have some experience going in, and we know what to expect.”
Last year, the Bobcats faced Texas A&M in the opening-round. In 2004, MSU traveled to No. 4 Southern Cal for its first-round match.
MSU will be paced by its four seniors (Federico Ueltschi, Marek Gebicki, Tejeshwara Chigateri and Jake Berriochoa), all of which are competing in their third straight NCAA championship. The foursome has combined for over 75 singles victories this spring.
The Waves have dropped two matches on the season, against No. 1 Georgia and No. 3 Texas. Pepperdine boasts three players in the ITA top 100, including No. 8 Scott Doerner, a senior from Melbourne, Australia, No. 31 Pedro Rico, a senior from Alicante, Spain, and No. 92 Ivor Lovrak, a senior from Zagreb, Croatia.
In addition, two of the Waves three doubles tandems are ranked among the top 50.
