High-Flyin' Rudy Grabs Second

Montana State's dynamic duo became a terrific trio on Saturday, when Ellie Rudy became the third Bobcat to secure a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Bobcat sophomore pole vaulter reached 13-7.75, MSU and Big Sky Conference records.
"Ellie did a great job," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy. "She missed one bar, at 12-11, then made her first jump at 13-3 and her first at 13-7.75. She had a great look at 13-9.75, and almost made it. I think 14-feet is there for her, hopefully she can get there in two weeks (at tne NCAA meet)."
Rudy, from Woodland Park, Colo., finished second in the vault at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Saturday. The top five in each event qualify for the national meet. Erin Jones-Graf (heptathlon) and Josh Henigman (hammer throw) previously quailfited.
Also on Saturday, Ashley Jones finished 12th in the hammer throw (185-4), and Jesse Allen was 17th in the shot put (52-5.25). Jones, a junior from Harlowton, remains in the pool for an at-large bid into the NCAA meet, while Allen, a junior from Lewistown, remains in consideration for the hammer but is likely not a contender in the shot put.
Kennedy was pleased with his team's showing at the regional meet. "Ellie (Rudy) and Josh (Henigman) gave us a couple of great performances, and they really gave Montana State a lot of visibility at this meet. This was a good meet for the Bobcats."
