MSU’s Ueltschi Drops First-Round Match at NCAA Championship

Ueltschi, who was ranked No. 102 in the most recent ITA poll, got out to a quick 5-2 advantage in the opening set. Lecloerec promptly staged a comeback pushing the score to 6-6. The junior All-America from France blanked Ueltschi 7-0 in the tie-breaker to win the first set.
“Federico had his chances and held some set points, but he was facing one of the best players in the country,” said MSU men’s coach Mike Phillips. “When you play at this level momentum is key and (Arnaud) Lecloerec took control.”
Ueltschi, who was a three-time Big Sky Conference MVP, finished his career as MSU’s all-time victories leader. The senior from Mendoza, Argentina guided the Bobcats to three consecutive Big Sky titles and was a four-time All-Big Sky first-team selection.
