Phillips Named Tennis Coach of the Year

The award was announced Tuesday. All seven Big Sky Conference Men’s Tennis Coaches voted for the award.

Phillips guided Montana State to the Big Sky regular-season title, and then watched his Bobcats beat Montana 4-0 for the Big Sky Championship last weekend in Pocatello, Idaho.

Phillips is in his sixth season as the Bobcats’ head coach. He has claimed the Coach of the Year Award three consecutive seasons, and four of the last five. Montana State has won three straight conference championships under Phillips.

Montana State will take a 15-11 record into the NCAA Tournament.

Phillips, a native of Las Cruces, N.M., earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at Colorado.
