Montana State's track and field team looks to stay a step ahead of the winter-like weather that descended on the Gallatin Valley Thursday, and a step ahead of the injury bug that has hit the program early this outdoor season.
"We're really looking forward to getting out in some good weather and competing," said MSU coach Dale Kennedy, whose Bobcats compete at the Weber State Invitational in Ogden on Saturday. "We're still not 100 percent healthy, but the kids that are healthy are excited to get back into competition."
Saturday marks MSU's second event of the outdoor season, and with good weather in the forecast appears to be an important weekend. "We have 10 women qualified (for the Big Sky Championships)," Kennedy said, "and seven men. We need to keep building those numbers and get to the point where we're full qualified."
Kennedy said that he looks for continued improvement. "We had some good marks last week, led by Ellie Rudy (pole vault) and Kelli Phillip (javelin), who mad the (NCAA) regional qualifying marks in their events. We'll look for everyone to take a step forward this weekend."
