The Bobcat women’s team will begin play on Friday against Idaho beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Appleton Tennis Center. MSU will also face Gonzaga on Saturday, followed by No. 64 Boise State on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Despite coming off a 7-0 setback to Sacramento State last weekend, MSU will look to go 2-1 this weekend.
“Boise State is an outstanding program and has great support, so it’ll be a challenge on Sunday,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “We have already defeated Gonzaga this season and we’re anxious to see what we can accomplish against Idaho.”
Montana State (7-10) will be paced by the one-two punch of sophomores Nuria Lozano and Nicole Luetolf.
The Bobcat men will begin play at the BSU Invite on Saturday when they face Idaho at 9.am. MSU will also play Santa Clara in doubles action on Saturday evening, before concluding action with the Broncos on Sunday morning in singles. Montana State will finish the invitational against No. 22 Boise State at 1 p.m.
Idaho enters Saturday’s match with a 1-11 overall mark, while Santa Clara is 10-10 on the season.
With its 7-0 over Sacramento State last weekend, the Bobcats are 9-9 overall.
Boise State is 14-3 on the season and boasts two ranked singles players in No. 29 Luke Shields and No. 122 Thomas Schoeck. The due also combines in doubles where they are listed No. 18 in the most recent ITA poll.
MSU will be led by senior Federico Ueltschi, who is ranked No. 123. The native of Mendoza, Argentina, was this week’s Big Sky Player of the Week and is a two-time Big Sky MVP.
“We’re starting to peak at the right time,” said MSU men’s coach Mike Phillips. “We’re playing a couple of teams we haven’t seen before, and Boise State is a great program that has enjoyed a lot of success. It will be a tough weekend.”
Following the BSU Invitational, both Bobcat squads will be at Weber State on April 14.
