Montana State Tennis Teams at Big Sky Championships

The Bobcat women’s squad earned the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 seed and intra-state rival Montana on Thursday at 10 a.m.
MSU’s men’s team, who will be looking for its third straight Big Sky title, is the No. 1 seed and will have a first-round bye. The Bobcats will face the lowest remaining seed on Friday at 2 p.m.
“We’re looking forward to playing the Grizzlies,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “They beat us by one point at there place, and you just can’t predict what could happen on a neutral court. Our kids are ready.”
The Bobcat women are 9-13 overall and are led by all-conference performers Nuria Lozano and Nicole Luetolf.
The Montana State men’s team is the favorite heading into the championship, but is coming off a tough loss at Montana, last weekend. MSU had previously recorded 19 consecutive Big Sky Conference victories.
Over the past four years, the Bobcats are 22-2 in league action.
“Last weekend was a wake-up call and we have re-focused our energy on the tournament,” said MSU men’s coach Mike Phillips. “We have been here before and know what to expect. Our guys are ready to step-up to the challenge.”
The Bobcats will be paced by senior Federico Ueltschi, who garnered his third straight Big Sky Conference MVP honor on Tuesday.
