He is the second men’s tennis player in Big Sky history to win three straight MVPs, joining Idaho State’s Mike Castrilli from 1992-94.
“Not only is Federico the greatest player in Montana State history, but he is also one of the best in Big Sky history, as well,” said Bobcat head coach Mike Phillips. “For four seasons he has committed himself to excellence, remained focused on his game and been an outstanding representative of Montana State University.”
Ueltschi, a senior from Mendoza, Argentina, has posted a 115-34 mark in singles action and has not lost a Big Sky singles match since his freshman season.
In addition to Ueltschi, MSU senior Marek Gebicki also earned his fourth consecutive All-Big Sky first-team accolade. Gebicki, a two-time Academic All-America, has recorded 82 singles victories during his tenure with the Bobcats.
Senior Tejeshwara Chigateri was named to the All-Big Sky second team to earn his fourth straight league recognition. He has logged 77-46 mark in singles action. Sophomore Kyle McDonald garnered honorable-mention kudos.
“I’m excited that we had four kids gain all-conference recognition,” Phillips said. “This group of seniors has really made this program what it is today.”
The MSU women’s tennis squad landed two players on the all-conference squad.
Sophomore Nuria Lozano garnered her second straight All-Big Sky first-team honor. The native of San Luis Potosi, Mexico has notched 14 wins this season playing at the No. 1 singles spot.
In addition, sophomore Nicole Luetolf was named second-team for the second consecutive year.
“Our two sophomores have earned Big Sky honors in the two years they have been at Montana State and were excited about the future,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “They are the building blocks of our program.”
Both Montana State squads will compete in the Big Sky Tournament this weekend in Pocatello, Idaho.
