Gillum Shines in Big Sky Tourney Opening Round

Kelly Gillum found her rhythm on Monday, and the result was the best round by a Bobcat in the school's 13 Big Sky Conference tournaments.
Gillum, a sophomore from Fort Collins, Colo., fired a first-round 70 on Monday to take a three-stroke lead in the individual race at the 2006 Big Sky Conference Championships. Gillum's round was the best by a Bobcat this season, and gives her the top two rounds fired by an MSU player in Big Sky tourney play.
"That's a sweet start by Kelly," said MSU coach Brittany Basye. "She finally acknowledged that she could play this way, and she hit it great all day. She was really in a zone, and she played fairways and greens all day. She hit her driver, which helped, and he hit her irons very well. Hitting putts for par is just clutch."
The Big Sky Tourney continues with second round play Tuesday at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
