Montana State Volleyball Program Adds Three

Wendy Doutre, a 6-2 outside hitter from Sparks, Nevada; Meghan Albiston, a 5-5 libero from Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Maria Peterson, a 5-10 setter from Corvallis have agreed to become part of a program that has notched eleven consecutive non-losing seasons, in addition to ten straight Big Sky Conference tournament appearances.
“This class is exciting for a lot of different reasons, mainly because they bring a lot of volleyball knowledge to the program,” Malauulu said. “They come from great club programs and that experience will help us in the long run.”
Doutre, who preps at Spanish Springs High School, recorded 196 kills en route to being named team Most Valuable Player. In addition, she was a second-team all-conference performer.
“Wendy is a big, physical player with a huge upper end,” Malauulu said. “She can block very well and will add to what we’ve already established at the net.”
Albiston, a second-team all-state pick at Idaho Falls High School, collected 365 digs last season and averaged 2.94 saves per game. She led her squad to a 43-1 overall mark and an Idaho 5A state title. For her efforts, she also garnered Post Register and High Country Conference first-team accolades.
During her tenure at IFHS, her team posted a 127-13 record. Albiston is a four-year letterwinner and all-academic performer. She also lettered in softball for the Tigers.
“Meghan is the first true primary passer we’ve recruited at Montana State,” Malauulu said. “She can flat-out pass the ball. In addition, she also has the ability to set, and we could use her in that role, as well.”
Peterson, who preps at Corvallis High School, led the Blue Devils to a 10-4 conference mark and a fourth place finish at the state tournament. Peterson recorded 313 kills, 212 assists, 82 aces and 72 blocks as a senior.
Peterson was a two-year all-state performer and was a three-time all-state academic pick.
“We saw Maria at the state tournament and were very impressed with her leadership ability,” Malauulu said. “She will need some training at the setting position, but she is a quick study and will develop nicely. We look forward to her contributing in the future.”
Malauulu indicated the Bobcats will look to sign one more student-athlete this spring.
