Bobcat Netters Defeat Santa Clara, Drop Matches to Boise State

The Bobcats won the opening doubles point against Santa Clara claiming victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles. MSU captured the opening four singles matches to secure the win. The victory was highlighted by Federico Ueltschi’s 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Jan Macek at No. 1 singles.
“Our win over Santa Clara was the best victory of the season for us,” said MSU men’s coach Mike Phillips. “They have good talent, but our guys were focused and did an excellent job finishing out the match.”
Montana State (11-10) dropped a 6-1 decision to nationally ranked Boise State. MSU’s lone victory came at No. 5 singles where Jakub Dybala downed Piotr Dilaj 6-1, 6-2.
“If you look at the scores, we certainly could’ve won a couple of the matches,” Phillips said. “When we got off the court and looked at how everyone did, we were amazed with how close we came to an upset. Boise State is an outstanding program.”
The Bobcat women’s team lost a 7-0 decision to No. 64 Boise State to conclude its play at the BSU Invitational.
Both Montana State tennis squads will be at Weber State next week.
