Paced by his four upperclassmen, the Bobcats cruised past Sacramento State 7-0, Saturday afternoon in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center. With the victory, MSU is 9-9 overall and 3-0 in Big Sky Conference play.
“Sacramento State is a very talented team, but give our guys credit for stepping up and competing,” Phillips said. “It was important for our seniors to get the win and they weren’t going to be denied.”
MSU opened the match winning the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3. The Bobcats swept all six singles matches in straight sets, as Tejeshwara Chigateri secured the win at No. 4 singles defeating Thomas Morton 6-3, 6-2.
Montana State’s senior class of Federico Ueltschi, Marek Gebicki, Chigateri and Jake Berriochoa are 19-1 in Big Sky action during their tenure at MSU.
MSU will face Idaho next Saturday.
