The Hornets captured the opening doubles point, despite MSU’s upset win at No. 3 where Allison Fey and McKenzie Hilmer combined for a 9-8 win over Karina Jarlkaganova and Svetlana Pimenova.
In singles action, Sacramento State swept all six matches. MSU almost took a point at No. 2 singles, where Nicole Luetolf took Joyce Martinez Gutierrez to three sets.
“Despite the final outcome, I thought we had a super day,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “That was the closest we have played them in years. We played with a lot of heart and spirit, and that’s what we asked them to do.”
MSU will play in the Boise State Invitational next weekend.
