This Week:
3/9-12: NCAA National Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
Six MSU skiers are qualified for the NCAA Championships; two alpine and four nordic. Spela Bertoncelj heads the MSU contingent in alpine after posting five top ten finishes in slalom and GS during the regular season. Cody Harris will represent the MSU alpine men. Senior Mandy Bowden is one of two Nordic women qualified for the event. Canadian freshman Claire Rennie joins Bowden, and nordic men Mark Iverson and Chris Coe on the nordic side. Iverson, a native of Steamboat Springs returns home for the event.
Indoor Track
This Week:
3/10-11: NCAA Indoor Championships at Fayetteville, Ark.
Two Montana State track and field athletes earned spots in this weekend's NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Senior Josh Henigman (Bridger) and freshman Ellie Rudy (Woodland Park, Colo.) each head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the meet, which begins Friday. Henigman enters the meet as the ninth-ranked weight thrower in the nation, with a best toss of 70' 6.5". Rudy enters in a three-way tie for 11th place in the pole vault, with a best mark of 13' 5.75".
MSU senior Erin Jones-Graf missed qualifying for the pentathlon by 12 points. Jones-Graf finished with a best mark of 3,929 points, and the last qualifier scored 3,941.
All three Bobcats set Big Sky Conference and MSU records this winter.
Women’s Golf

3/6-8: MSU hosts Bobcat Desert Classic at Goodyear, Ariz.
Last Week:
3/4: Bobcat Pre-Desert Classic vs. Montana and Weber State at Goodyear, Ariz.
The MSU women’s golf team sat in fifth place with a 314 after the first round of golf at the Bobcat Desert Classic in Goodyear, Ariz. On Monday. Freshman LaRae Smith fired a career-best 77 to lead the Cats. MSU chases a pair of Big Sky teams; first place Sacramento State (301) and fourth place Eastern Washington (312). In second round play on Tuesday, the women fell to eighth. Play concludes on Wednesday.

MSU men defeated MSU-Billings 7-0

Current Records: Men: 6-4, 2-0 ; Women: 5-7, 1-1
Both men’s and women’s tennis teams had a productive weekend beating conference foe Eastern Washington and local rival MSU-Billings. The win boosts the men’s undefeated conference record to 2-0 and evens the women at 1-1. Both squads swept the doubles events against EWU. The men dropped at number five singles and the women at number four.
Women’s senior Vera Vasileva had an outstanding meet against EWU for the Bobcats, winning her singles match 6-0, 6-0, and teaming with Katy Clarke to win at number two doubles, 8-3.

2005-06: Record: 15-15, 7-7 (4th place, Big Sky)
The MSU men’s basketball team finished their 2005-06 season with a disappointing home loss in the first round of the Big Sky Tournament. The Bobcats fell to Sacramento State, 70-71 after leading the Hornets most of the game. MSU hit only 62.5% of its 40 attempted free throws. Ja’Ron Jefferson led the Bobcats with 12 points and senior Marvin Moss added 10. This marked the Bobcats’ 21st appearance in the BSC Tourney since its inception in 1976. It was coach Mick Durham’s 11th trip to the tourney since he became the school’s head coach in the 1990-91 season.
Just five days earlier, the Bobcats downed Sac State in their final regular game of the season, 75-70, in front of an exuberant Bobcat crowd on Senior Night. In that contest, senior Al Beye led the Cats with 16 points, 7 rebounds and two blocked shots. The rejections elevated the senior center into a tie for the school record for single season blocked shots with 60. The Cats trailed for the first 31 minutes of the game, but a 14-0 run put MSU ahead for the rest of the contest.

2005-06 Record: 3-23, 2-12 (8th place in Big Sky)
The Bobcat women saved their best basketball for last, according to head coach Trish Binford, taking league-leader Idaho State to the buzzer with a 75-77 loss at ISU Saturday. Junior Whitney Connolly paced the Cats with 17 points and seven rebounds. Montana State shot a school record 17-of-17 from the free throw line.
On Thursday, the women dropped to Weber State, 63-86, despite another strong performance from Connolly off the bench with 16 points. Freshmen Jenny Herringer and Nubia Garcia contributed double figures also with 14 and 10 points.
