Bobcat Netters Conclude Home Slate with Sacramento State

The women’s match will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the men’s contest at 2 p.m.
Both matches will serve as Senior Day, with players being honored before the beginning of their respective contest.
The Montana State (7-9) women’s team will look to carry over the momentum from a 4-3 win over Lewis-Clark State, last week. However, the task will not be easy as the Bobcats face the Hornets- owners of the last four Big Sky Conference titles.
In addition, Sacramento State is No. 46 in the most recent ITA rankings.
“The girls love playing Sacramento State,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “We’ve played a very tough schedule, so we’re accustomed to seeing teams of this caliber. We love a challenge.”
The Bobcat women will be led by seniors Vera Vasileva and Katy Clarke. The twosome has combined for 62 singles victories and 56 doubles wins during their tenure at MSU.
The Montana State (8-9)-Sacramento State men’s match will feature the two Big Sky programs that have dominated the league since 1998. Combined, the two schools have claimed the last eight conference titles.
“This is always a knock-down battle,” said MSU men’s coach Mike Phillips. “Sacramento State has excellent talent and we’ll need to fire on all cylinders to get the win.”
Four seniors will play their final match in the BATC against the Hornets, including the best performer in MSU history.
Federico Ueltschi, a two-time Big Sky Conference MVP, has recorded a program best 108-33 mark in singles play, along with posting 63 wins in doubles action. Ueltschi is the only Montana State player to ever be listed in the ITA top 100 rankings.
In addition, Marek Gebicki, a two-time Academic All-America who has an 80-37 four-year mark; Tejeshwara Chigateri, a two-time all-conference honoree with a 72-44 mark; and Jake Berriochoa, a three-time all-league academic pick who has notched 46 singles wins, will say goodbye to the Bobcat faithful.
“It’s going to be tough to see these guys play their last match at home,” Phillips said. “This senior class will be one for the ages. They’ve accomplished so much, both on and off the court. No one can take away the memories and the fact that they have won two Big Sky titles.”
